Updated version of the previous design with a few 'improvements'
* The notches on the film have been enlarged and in perspective
* The font has been changed

Comments:
- "Opening up video editing" -- In my opinion this is an excellent logo as it is recognizeable, very easy to print and can be easily connected with video editing "open"-source and a surprise, like behind a curtain. Furthermore it does not depend on a certain color nor a certain background, even though dark backgrounds seem to work better. From my point of view, the used font should not be the topic of this logo contest at the moment at any logo as this should be detachable from the logo itself. -- SimAV
I think thats my favorite now (well there are others which are very good too). Still some adjustments could be done. by suggesting a yellowish glow i thought about something like sunrise with some orange tint, this now looks very yellow/greenish. Anyways this was just an suggestion which has to be tried out, having a SVG to play with would be nice. Next, the 'i' should be centered under the angel (or completely out of center), maybe try some fonts from the other submissions, there where some nice custom fontworks. Maybe the dot over the i could be left out? -- ["ct"] DateTime(2008-12-04T04:55:38Z)
Still nice, still need the SVG to try variations. The font is important. I think we can find much better type faces than this one. It has to fit.
--- Velmont I like it! you have my vote!
--- Pablo Lizardo - Thank you for your comments. As SimAV suggested, the typeface could be decided later. In this instance I left the typeface to be of a lower priority. I know that sometimes the typeface could be the logo. I did want the typeface to be sans serif and rounded. I wanted to create the logo as per the requirements; the most important being 4:3 aspect ratio and the fact it should be able to stand on its own. I am not sure if I should enclose the SVG. --- anamii
- Anamii: That is how free software etc works, -- you would have to give the source under a free license (including source) if it is supposed to be used by Lumiera anyway --- Velmont
I would agree but this *is* a contest. Hence my trepidation in supplying the originals at this stage. However I don't want to argue anymore about this and you can find the original in the uploader page. (I haven't managed to add a link to it because it prepends "http://www.pipapo..." on every link) --- anamii
Yes, this is a contest. The winner will be a logo concept and a group of people that worked around it (lead by the idea creator). It's an open source contest.
--raffa - I like this one too, better than the original. The dark gray background gives it a similar feel to Cinelerra's SUV theme, kind of paying homage to the project that inspired Lumiera. -- Pegasus
- Yes another good logo. The concept is very smart and attractive, and reminds me of the old dark rooms where films were edited. But the lighting seems somewhat unrealistic. The eliptical design of lighting looks unprofessional. Needs a better light effect to reflect the form of the openning that sheds light to the user. If it is done I will definitely vote on this one!
@Anamii - I took the liberty of playing with your no-lighting-effect logo in Inkscape and 'faked' a few lighting effects. IMO it detracts from the usefulness as a logo but I thought it might be nice to see what some kind of additional lighting effect looked like. I hope you don't mind me doing that. If so, feel free to remove the link to the image below. Btw - getting those types of effects in Inkscape is a bit of a pain.
- Wait.. why am I doing this.. I have my own logo entries to worry about!!

* @the last person - I really like it. You're quite right. Getting to grips with Inkscape to create those type of effects is a pain. Since the bulk of the criticism has been towards the font/typeface perhaps someone could enlighten me with some ideas. Let me have another go at doing the lighting. Let me battle with Inkscape again

* Sorry, I was the person who posted that lighting image but forgot to sign my name to the comment. It's only my personal preference, but maybe a kind of chunky serif type of font might look good. Something like DejaVu Serif Normal. It's got more heft and the serifs are kind of slab-like, not thin or delicate. So it still has a modern feel. Again IMO. -- Richard Querin
* I keep liking this logo. My favorite version is the B/W version. It's just fresh and immediate. When I first saw this logo (on dark background) it took me a while to recognize it as a frame. And that happened only looking at the B/W version. Possibly this is because the lighting is unnatural (it comes our as smoke, not as a straight line; in the original version no light came out of the holes). Also I think a line is missing (the one representing the bend in the frame under the lifted corner). In the B/W version there is no light so no misunderstanding and the missing line can be imagined in the black area. Anyway I like the logo independent from the text. --raffa
* I think this is very promising, with some tweaking, polishing and perfecting may become the most professional logo here.—J. M.
* I'm the @Last Person - Yes! If you add the Lumiera text and shed the light on it as it comes from the opening it will be perfect. And don't forget to smoothen the edge of the lighting to the right. I'll vote on this one.
* I made two variations, still, the shine is not real 3D but I think it looks a bit better than the others:

And I made a cutoff as well. We should brainstorm around this to make enough variations and possible improvements so we better what's possible and preferable. The simple variant is very good already, (and especially the idea) - but we need a fancy fancy version as well. -- Velmont

Monochrome and inverse of the original design http://lumiera.org/logo_archive/anamii_lumiera_3.png
Comments:
- The image shows a portion of camera film which is "opened" or "peeked into" to reveal light.
- The logo is designed so it can stand on its own.
- I like the third version, the monochrome one: I can recognize a frame immediately. I like also the frame shape just suggested and not completely defined (white to white with no border) --raffa
- anamii - Thank you for your comments. Do you reckon I should modify or add anything to it?
really, cool I like those, but the font needs some work. Just 'lumiera' without subtitle also. Idea on the first one would be to use a sunny (bright/yellow/orange) tint rather than the blueish? -- ["ct"] DateTime(2008-11-25T01:01:37Z)
I like the last one too. It's more powerful as monochrome IMO. Two things: I think the font needs some work. What about using the font you used for the tagline instead? Second, the film notch holes need a little tweaking on the near side. They seem to shrink a little too abruptly, and it's noticeable. Great work. Definitely one I wished I had thought of!
- Richard Querin - anamii - I initially felt that the notch holes jarred with my eyes a bit. At the time I felt happy to leave them like that and produce the image for comment. You're right about the font. Anyway I shall try to update the image soon.
- Velmont: This is _very_ nice. BUT, where is the SVG's? I would like to try making a different «light» under the film strip. If not I'd like to build upon it. Try some other but similar things. Great.
